Last year I took up hunting. I got a small game license and had a few meals of partridge and even got myself two rabbits.
I bought the gun on the top of this picture at that time. It's a Mossberg .410.
After saving up for a little while and doing lots of research, today I purchased a Browning blr .270wsm, lever action, open sights. It's a nice fit and without a scope, the weight is very manageable.
I have a buck and a doe tag. Time to even the score for my car.

Susan,
Nice choices for your needs. I too have a Mossberg .410 but generally use it for trap&skeet as the dogs generally flush out the small birds faster than I can sight them.
For deer I have a Winchester 30-30 lever with a Marble's tang-sight, also a folding rear sight should I want to use "open" rather than "peep" optics.
Lucky you - both doe and deer tags. In Quebec the deer is a given with a $50 licence but the doe is lottery. In my region there were 9500 entrants for 1800 doe tags, and at $8 a pop that's alot of dosh for a few does.
Anyhow, good luck with your hunting.

I'll be interested to see what you kill.
When is deer hunting up there?
A nice buck ran through our property yesterday.
Erin, next time you're in wpg during hunting season, you should come to Kenora. We could go hunting.
A buck tag is a given, there is a lottery for doe tags, but we have so many deer that you can just go buy one. There is still the lottery happening and one day that'll be your only chance on a tag, just not now.
Wendy: the deer season opens mid-October and ends December 15th
It's interesting that Quebec is seemingly drowning in deer but the season is shorter than in Ontario. Bow-hunters have first dibs the beginning of October, then black-powder, but rifles is only the first 2 weeks of November. Game over.
